1. PUBLISHING; I need to submit to lit magazines such as Stork, Gangsters in Concrete, and Em Review. This is why: I am getting extremely good feedback from the online monthly/weekly writing contests I’ve been involved in, but so far with regards to the publishing world, I haven’t made any real effort. I must submit to get over my fear of rejection, and to put myself out there. From there, I’ll submit to magazines, and real lit publications. And then book publications. Baby steps.
2. INTERNSHIPS; I need to locate some. For the spring, for the summer, for after I graduate. New York, Boston, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Cork, Oxford.
3. THESIS; I need to work much harder on it. I’m on chapter four of the rough draft. I need to get much, much farther. This November I’m doing NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), so hopefully I’ll get farther. At least halfway through. Then if I have to do my thesis next semester (which seems to be more and more likely), I will be more ready.
4. GRADUATE SCHOOL; I am formulating lists. So far: Sarah Lawrence (where I almost went to undergrad) - Bronxville, NY. Queen’s University - Belfast, Ireland. Trinity College - Dublin, Ireland. And the most desirable of all: Warwick University - Coventry, England. When do I want to go? What do I need to do?
5. SCHOOLWORK; Research paper for US Multicultural Lit: American Born Chinese? The Tree Bride? Wife?; Midterms in US Multicultural Lit (Thurs) & Art of Fiction (25th); Writing, writing, writing.
I am afraid of failure.
